I'm Tracy Della Vecchia, and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the MarineParents.com volunteers. This web site could not exist if it were not for the contributions of hundreds of parents around the United States. Our 60+ volunteers have taken that one step further and contribute endless hours answering emails, moderating the message boards, researching information, and supporting the parents, spouses, family and friends of our United States Marines. The dedication to the Marine Corps from each of these individuals benefits thousands of families around the world.
Words can never express my gratitude to each of them. Thank you, to each of the volunteers, for your tireless commitment on the web site, MarineParents.com: a Place to Connect & Share!

Bootcamp was so very hard thinking I was alone, I came here and have stayed with the Family both giving and taking support as needed. My Marine Family, my faith, and my little Fat-Fat literally got me through the first deployment and I know they will get me through the next.

Gary works for the Bosch Corporation, and Sue is a Dental Hygienist with Partners in Dental Care, a large general practice. Sue and Gary have 3 children. Ryan lives and works in Indiana, about 5 hours from them. Their daughter Sara and her husband, Matt, live nearby. Ben is the youngest and he is their Marine veteran, currently living in Corona, CA. They have two darling granddogs......a Silky terrier named BooBoo and a Yorkie named Yogi. They have a new addition to their OWN family, one of BooBoo and Yogi's puppies, named Roxie.
Ben planned on joining the Marine Corps for a long time, and could hardly wait to graduate high school. He became a Marine on October 31, 2003.
Ben was deployed to Iraq from May of 2004 till late February 2005. He earned a Purple Heart while he was there.
Ben deployed again in 2006 with 1/4 Alpha on the 11th MEU. He is currently living in Corona, CA and works for Adessa Car Auctions. He will be moving to Sacramento this winter to attend WyoTech.
I found MP.com when Ben was in SOI. It was such a lifesaver to find other moms who had the same concerns and worries as I did---others who actually understood what I was feeling! I found myself on the site so often that I decided to volunteer and make myself useful! I hope that I can offer much needed support and information to others. I feel like the people here are my family now. I've even been lucky enough to have met some of them in person.

He was in Kuwait and Iraq Feb until returing home July,2003. He and his sweetheart Karen married on Aug 16th,2003.
Linda explains her feeling of helplessness during her Marine's deployment led her to the MarineParents.com web site in March of 2003, and she met up with other Moms and Dads that truely understood her emotions. "I volunteer for helping on the web site because it's a place where people understood how I felt during the war. Wow! They understood! I sat up many a night chatting, sharing a letter a phone call, or just being together with no news to share; waiting, hoping and praying. My son Anthony, 21 is a Cpl heading for Camp Pendleton. He is joining the 1st LAR. I am so proud of him. His siblings tease me constantly ( noy always joking) about his room being a shrine and his ability to walk on water. He is the first of my children to move more than 10 minutes from me so I;m trying to adjust. He is a very dedicated Marine.
I am a stay at home child care provider and am legally blind so most of my days are spent at home. When my son enlisted, I was desperate for information. I stumbled on this site and am personally responsible for a great many of the millions of hits each week. I feel that I have something to offer to Recruit Parents to help them through the uncertainty of bootcamp.

Executive Board Member,
I have a phenomenal family. My wonderful, loving, and dedicated husband and I work from our home in a beautiful little secluded and private spot in the woods. My son Derrick is a former 3/4 Marine with 4 years active duty and three tours of Iraq. I have a daughter, Lauren, who is married and lives with her husband David, near the army base he was stationed at here in Missouri.
Derrick had been in bootcamp 2 weeks when 9/11 happened. My world turned upside down. On January 1, 2003 he called and said "I'm being deployed to Iraq." From that phone call, this web site was born out of my need to find information about deployment, and my understanding that if I needed the information, thousand of other families would be searching for it too. Derrick's battalion was the first to do three tours of Iraq and we are blessed that he has returned safely from all three tours.
Though Derrick is no longer in the Corps, I will continue my work on the web site--the Marine Corps is in my blood for the rest of my life. Helping Marine Corps families and supporting our Marines is my life now, and I can't imagine doing anything else. I would like to thank all the volunteers and members and families that help to make this web site a Place to Connect & Share™!

The family always knew "Lefty" would enlist in the military. The only questions were when and which branch. After 9-11, his emotional need to enlist heightened. When he met with the Marines, he knew he had found his niche. Although his family urged him to complete his college education first, Lefty enlisted in March, 2004. He plans to finish his degree in the future.

Anita's first encounter with the Marine Corps was at 8th & I Barracks, where she held her first bartending position.
Allen was raised in the metro Atlanta area by a very close knit family. He excelled at baseball and there were hopes and plans that he would play in "The Bigs". However, life's journey took Allen to Parris Island; he is one of the newest Marines and has just been assigned to his PDS in Yuma, AZ.
Because of my own personal experience with SendOutCards while my son was in boot camp, I wanted to share this fun and easy service with other parents, family members and friends of Marines. I believe SOC is a great way to express ourselves and stay in touch with our Marines while saving money on the costs associated with sending cards. And I hope to help make SOC another great way in which to support the fundraising efforts of MarineParents.com.

Nancy and her husband Joe live in Lombard, IL. They have a 21 year old daughter Jenn,19 year old Marine Tommy and 2 wonderful dogs Bisket and Archie. Nancy works as a property manager and new home construction assistant, Joe is in construction and remodeling. Her daughter is a hair stylist in Wheaton. They enjoy fishing, family and friends.
Tommy left for boot camp in San Diego October 10th, he had a few detours in MRP and graduated May 18th as Platoon Honorman in Bravo Company. He graduted SOI/IBT at CP 8/23/07 and is currently deployed with 3/6 Kilo 2nd Plt. He loves being a Marine, in our last conversation he said he wakes up every day and Thanks God he is a Marine!! We are so very proud of him.
When my son first told us of his plans to become a Marine I had no idea what to expect. We knew nothing about the Marines let alone what was in store for both he and us. I was lost, confused, did not know where to turn. Then I found this wondeful place called Marine Parents... The support and information I received was amazing. I was not alone.. Others deserve to receive the same support as I did, thus my reason for becoming a Volunteer. We are a family of sorts and want others to feel welcome as well.

Wendy lives in Traverse City, MI (the Cherry Capital of the World). She also lived for 14 years in London, Ontario, where she met her husband, Bobby – an ex-hockey player. Wendy works as the Director of Human Resources at Cherry Central, a member/grower cooperative that markets fresh fruit and retail brands. Wendy has two children, 14-year old Kaity and 19-year old LCpl. Casey and a Golden Retriever named Miller.
Kaity is a 9th grader and a dancer. Starting ballet at 3-years old she now dances with the Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre over 20 hours per week! She has studied in Toronto, Ontario and spent last summer with the Chicago Ballet and hopes to dance professionally someday (soon!). Not leaving much time in her social schedule, she still finds time to enjoy her other loves – makeup clothes and music!
Casey wanted to join the military since he was a small boy – always fascinated by weapons, aircraft and camouflage! Coming from a long line of active military family members who encouraged him, he became a poolie shortly after turning 17. After graduating high school, he left for San Diego bootcamp on 9/11/06. Graduating with a meritous promotion on 12/8/06, he attended his MOS school and is now stationed at Camp Pendleton.

Jean and her husband Gary have been married for 30 and have 2 sons. The oldest son (Roy) is married and lives in Greensboro,NC just 15 minutes from us with his wife Wendi and their son our only grandchild at this time Jonathan. Our youngest son whose name is Bracken and yes this is his first name is our Marine. He is currently single and is stateside home from his 2d deployment. My dad was a Marine Raider during WWII and before he passed away he knew that his grandson had graduated from boot camp and was a Marine. I know he was so proud of him as he would ask me how "his Marine" was doing and I know now he was his angel on his 1st and 2nd deployment.
My son who has been in the Marines for 3 1/2 years his name is Bracken is now a Lcpl.
I know when a loved one is deployed it is so stressfull on the family and this is one place where you can come and find support to know you are not going crazy and this too shall pass.
For me when I am at my lowest I can always come here and find either a post or come to the chat room and be lifted up.
God bless Tracey and all the wonderfully people who so freely volunteer their time and talents here. For me being able to stand in their shaldow and try to learn is a gift for me.

Ken works for Kelloggs in the Research Division, valiantly attempting to make our food supply healthier and tastier! Barb works part-time as a research manager for the Mergers & Acquisitions division of Sikich, a mid-sized company located outside of Chicago, IL. She does internet research to develop lists of potential buyers for the firm's client companies. Barb's main addiction, outside of her family, is tennis, tennis and more tennis. If she's not at the computer in her office, you can be sure to find her at a local court somewhere around town.
Dave is currently stationed at Cherry Point, NC as part of the 2nd MAW - MALS-14. His MOS is in Aviation Electronics. With two years of college already completed, he is currently working on a B.S. in Electrical Engineering while in the fleet. So far the Marine Corps has not changed Dave's sense of humor or personality - it has just made him a better, more responsible, more motivated and polished individual.
When Dave enlisted in DEP, Barb dove into a research project that was not similar to her usual business-related tasks. It wasn't until she discovered MarineParents.com that she felt as though she hit the jackpot on getting questions about the USMC and bootcamp answered. In addition, the network of sharing and support was overwhelming and made the 13 weeks of bootcamp much easier to bear. Barb is hoping she can pass along this same feeling of sharing, caring and support to other Marine parents, friends and families as a Recruit Board Moderator.

My Marine joined through the DEP program in 2003 and graduated from boot camp in August of 2004. He loves computers and video games. He is the youngest of 4 and has a twin sister. Becoming a Marine is something he had wanted to do for many years.

Ken is 22 and is working while attending college. He and Ryan have always been such good friends to each other, in addition to being brothers, and they both really enjoy spending time together when Ryan is able to be home.
Lynda was a stay-at-home mom and went back to college while her sons were in high school. She's a paralegal, loves her job and is fortunate to work for an outstanding attorney.
Lynda is very proud of her brother, John, who retired from the U.S. Navy and lives very far away. Despite the miles that separate them, he's a wonderfully supportive and loving brother and Uncle. Ryan and Ken always have had and always will have the greatest affection and love for their "Uncle Johnny."
Ryan is Lynda's Marine son. Ryan earned academic scholarships but also felt very strongly about serving his country. Though Lynda and her husband tried to pursuade him to finish college first, he insisted on serving for four years as an infantryman in the United States Marine Corps before completing his college education. Ryan graduated from Parris Island on June 30, 2006 as a Private First Class. His mom and dad are very proud of his strong convictions, sense of duty, and patriotism. In the fall of 2007, Ryan returned from his first deployment to Iraq. He's currently preparing for his second deployment, which is coming up soon.
The wealth of information and support here was, and continues to be, a great source of comfort and strength to me. Cheryl's son Aaron currently holds the rank of SSgt. He joined the Corps and went to MCRD San Diego July 1996, he graduated boot Oct. 18th, 1996. Aaron did his MOS trainings in Cherry Point, N. C. and Pensacola, Fl. His first PDS was at El Toro MCAS, until the base closed. Aaron was then transferred to Miramar MCAS where he is still stationed. He did a 3 year stint as a Drill Instructor working his way up to become a Senior Drill Instructor at MCRD-San Diego until December 05. January 06 he went back to his original MOS of the Ordnance, with the 3rd MAW, MALS 11 at Miramar MCAS. He volunteered for the Iraq deployment early 2006. He returned from deployment to Iraq early 2007. He will be deploying once again to Iraq Summer 08.
Cheryl had been a Marine Mom for 10 years, not knowing that this wonderful organization of MarineParents.com, Inc. existed. She did not find this message board until a week before Aaron deployed out Summer of 06. She is able to look back in hindsight and see what a wonderful helpful place MarineParents.com is. She often says how much help it would have been to her and the family if MarineParents.com had existed all those years ago when they were first beginning their journey of being a Marine family. Cheryl volunteers on MarineParents.com to give back to others in the Marine family. She knows what it feels like not to have anyone who understands what it is like to have your Marine deployed into harm's way.

TJ graduated from high school in May of 2006. After that he took "a year off". Like a lot of young people, he really didn't know what to do with his life and some of the choices he was making while living on his own weren't some of the best and could have lead him down a pretty poor path. He announced to his family three weeks before his boot camp ship date that he had joined the USMC. He graduated from MCRD in San Diego on December 14, 2007. He graduated MCT at Camp Pendelton, CA on February 19, 2008, then off to MOS at Camp Johnson (Camp Lejeune), NC for his job in Administration/Personnel. He graduated from MOS school April 29, 2008 and is now at his PDS MCRD Parris Island, SC, H&S IPAC.
When my son entered boot camp, there was no support group in my area. When my son's recruiter mentioned Marine Parents, I found the website and the people involved my salvation. The people here (especially in the Chat room) welcomed me with open arms and gave me a lot of hugs and support during some trying times, and celebrated when I had a triumph. I chose to volunteer in the Marine Parents Recruit Chat and Support Rooms because I want to be able to give back to others who follow in my shoes and help them with their worries and fears, and also to celebrate victories with them. I have also been so influenced by the people here and this organization that I have now started my own support group for parents of Marines in South Central Nebraska.

Mary and her husband, Randy, live in Missouri. Mary is a teacher and Randy is a carpenter. They are the proud parents of three great young men, Joe (24), Jake (22), and Eric, a high school senior.
Joe was an active NROTC college senior at MU when he surprised everyone with an announcement that he was going to enlist in the Marines. It was always expected that Joe would join the Marines, but it happened a little sooner than anticipated.
Cpl Joe graduated with Kilo Co. at MCRD in Feb, 2006. He graduated BCR November 2006. He served in Iraq 4/2007-10/2007. He is currently stationed at CP with 1st Recon BN, Bravo Co.
"MarineParents.com has been a Godsend. The people here have helped me to adjust to marine life. I just want to be here to help them and support others."
